The following links are supposed to change what my web site looks like. In other words, clicking on one of the following links is supposed to define the appearance (colors, fonts, character sizes, etc.) of this page and (most of) its siblings on this and further visits. See however the limitations below.
The following limitations apply to this theme switcher:
It only works with certain browsers. In fact, very few browsers indeed. Correct support of the W3C's Document Object Model (which means, in particular, correct ECMAscript and Stylesheet support) is required. To the best of my knowledge, only Mozilla (and derived products) and Internet Explorer version 6 or greater will work.
It requires cookies to be activated. Otherwise the style will not be kept across pages or across visits.
It only works on most pages. My web site is not consistent in its use of stylesheets, and some parts would be too hard to rewrite (though I'm thinking about it).
It produces annoying artefacts. First, when a page is loading, you probably see the default stylesheet, before the themer code switches into action and replaces it by the chosen stylesheet. Second, since the vertical positioning of a page is not identical on all styles, clicking on a link which references part of another page will probably fail, since the browser will position the correct part at top before the style is switched. I will try to find a way around this problem (which depends very highly on when and how ECMAscript code is executed by browsers).
I can't write good stylesheets. All proposed stylesheets are ugly and show strikingly bad taste. Unfortunately, it's not simply a question of taste: some pages are probably unreadable with some stylesheets because I haven't checked all possible color combinations; or because the choice of fonts is terrible; or for plenty of other reasons.
But it's so cool and so geeky I couldn't resist!
